About The Twilight Inn Foundation
“The Twilight Inn Foundation” is a Western North Carolina organization formed to help animals in need in the North Carolina High Country of Boone NC, Blowing Rock NC, Banner Elk NC and West Jefferson NC.
501c3 Status Pending.
To provide care and housing for older or special needs animals who have run out of options. Animal adoptions will be considered and are welcomed if those perfect pairings present themselves.
Originally formed when my elderly clients, in their 90’s, became ill. They had acquired 25+ inside cats which needed to be placed. They had to be removed from the home before the couple could return home from the hospital. Our local Humane Society in Boone NC was full and we kept them at my veterinary hospital, Whispering Waters Animal Clinic, until we found them homes. We realized at that time a group was needed to help the animals that had somewhat special needs.

“The Twilight Inn Foundation” has provided medical and supportive care for animals in need since 2000. The concept of the “Twilight Inn” was formed when homes were needed for older pets, including a miniature horse, when their guardians were not able to care for them any longer. We have adopted these animals and they live here adjacent to my veterinary clinic and home.
We are working closely with Appalachian State University students that are volunteering and interning with us. We are working with them to develop an Animal Studies curriculum at ASU. They have been able to obtain credit hours in a variety of classes helping with many different aspects of our none profit group. Please call us or additional information.
The Twilight Inn Foundation
The Twilight Inn Retirement Village For Animals is a Western North Carolina non-profit foundation that was started by veterinarian, Dr. “Maggie” Margaret Federhart. As her some of client’s were aging and moving into assisted living situations or deceased, Dr. Maggie began inheriting these pets as they too were aging and no other suitable home could be found.
To be able to continue to help as many animals in need as possible, we have formed a program within The Twilight Inn Foundation. This option will provide assurance that people’s pets will be taken care of when the time comes.
The endowment required for each animal can be established by bequest through a will or a trust, with an insurance policy, or can be paid in full at the time of enrollment. A non-refundable enrollment fee is due at the time of enrollment to reserve a space at The Twilight Inn. The balance is due in full at time of occupancy.
